Bonobono drifts out of the manga, into the cards.
A beginner tarot with the meanings printed right on it.
- Meanings printed on cards
- All artwork is drawn by hand
- English guidebook
- Symmetrical card backs
- Hard box included
What if you never had to stop a reading to look something up?
Bonobono Tarot prints both the upright and reversed interpretations directly on each card, so the meaning is there the moment you flip. The beloved sea otter and his friends — created by famed manga artist Mikio Igarashi — carry the deck, and a guidebook in Japanese and English is in the box for when you want to go deeper.
Three reasons readers choose this deck
Read at a glance
Upright and reversed meanings are written on every card. For a first deck, this removes the single biggest obstacle: the constant trip to the booklet.
Guidebook in Japanese and English
The included beginner-friendly booklet explains the cards in both languages for fuller interpretations.
Fair play built in
The card backs use a symmetrical pattern, so you cannot tell upright from reversed before the flip — a detail careful readers look for.

If you are starting from zero
Five reasons "tarot looks difficult" does not apply hereRead more
- No memorising, everThe interpretations travel on the cards themselves — the deck was specially designed for exactly this.
- English in the bookletThe included guidebook carries clear explanations in both Japanese and English.
- A cast that lowers the stakesIt is hard to feel intimidated by a card when Bonobono is on it.
- Start with a one-card drawNo spread to learn. One card answers the question in front of you.
- Honest reversalsSymmetrical backs mean reversed cards arrive by chance, the way they should.
The artwork
The sea otter's unhurried world, one card at a time.
Each card features charming, meticulously detailed artwork of Bonobono and his friends. The manga's easygoing temper suits tarot's harder cards surprisingly well — trouble still appears, but it appears the way it does in Igarashi's strips: survivable, and a little funny.
— The day this deck was made —
Bonobono has been asking gentle questions since 1986.
"Why do things turn out the way they do?"
That is the sea otter's whole mode — wondering, without panic, about how life works. It is also, more or less, what a person does when they lay out tarot cards. Bringing Mikio Igarashi's beloved characters to a deck built for beginners felt less like a crossover than a homecoming, and we designed it so the answers are as easy to reach as the questions: printed right on the cards, backed by a bilingual booklet.
